Celebrating Founders’ Day: Honouring Our Heritage and Inspiring Our Future
Founders’ Day, celebrated this year on 26th October, is a special occasion for every member of The Boys’ Brigade. It is a time to reflect on the vision and dedication of our founder, Sir William Alexander Smith, who established the movement in 1883 with the aim of nurturing young people in Christian faith, character, and discipline.
By celebrating this day, members honour the enduring values that continue to guide our work today — leadership, service, and fellowship.
Honouring Our Founder
Sir William Alexander Smith’s vision was to build a movement that would develop “the whole boy” — body, mind, and spirit — through Christian teaching, discipline, and structured activities. His faith and leadership laid the foundation for what has become a global movement that continues to impact lives across generations and nations.
A Legacy That Lives On
Founders’ Day is more than a commemoration; it is a renewal of commitment to the principles that have shaped generations of boys and young men. It reminds us that the friendships we form, the skills we develop, and the service we offer to our communities are part of a legacy that stretches back over 140 years.
How We Celebrate
Across the world, Boys’ Brigade companies and Global Fellowship members mark Founders’ Day in unique ways — through worship, parades, community service, reflection, and fellowship. These celebrations unite us in gratitude and inspire us to continue shaping young lives through faith and service.
