Triennial Council and Conference 2019

Boys’ Brigade Zambia had invited Global Fellowship to hold its Triennial Council and Conference in Lusaka from 13th – 17th August 2019.

This was the 19th meeting of the Council since we began i 1963. The event was attended by 43 representatives from 14 countries including: Australia, Bahamas, Cameroon, Denmark, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, New Zealand, Rwanda, Uganda, United Kingdom and Eire, Zimbabwe and Zambia. The conference was opened by her honour, the Vice President of Zambia, Inonge Wina at a nationally televised ceromony held at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross.

Following what was a grand affair, the first African Chair of Global Fellowship, Masauso Mwanza convened proceedings and was ably assisted by our Chief Executive Ulrich Piltoft.

The theme of the conference was “Becoming a strong voice in society, for and by youth, to get and give space” During the week we were treated to rich input from several keynote speakers such as Dr Abraham Chikasa of the Bible Society in Zambia along with a series of workshops led by FDF and local Zambian organisations on how to engage young people more fully within the leadership and decision making processes of our organisations. We also were privileged to enjoy seeing firsthand the youth ministry of BB Zambia and experienced a taste of the heritage and culture of the Zambian nation.

At the council a new Executive Committee was elected including: Ane Kolby Kristiansen (Denmark), Paul Kabanda (Uganda), Simon Gallager (UK and ROI) and Tim Pratt (New Zealand). David Martin was ratified as Honorary Treasurer. The new EXCO elected Tim Pratt as new Chair.

Many thanks are extended to the host committee in BB Zambia, chaired by Aaron Kambikambi and to our CEO, Ulrich Piltoft for piecing the logistics of the event together and for ensuring it was a great success.
